My itinerary

I’m sharing here my itinerary maybe it will be useful for someone who is planning a similar trip to mine.

Mountains: Iztaccíhuatl and Pico de Orizaba

Sunday – 20/03/22 Flying out

London – Madrid @16.55 – 20.25

Madrid- Mexico City @23.55 -5.30

Monday –  21/03 Arriving to México City airport @5.30am – transfer to hotel 

8.30 am – 13.30 Mexico City Markets and Street Food Tour + cooking class 

Markets to visit:

  • The Mural market and the Flower market.
  • Mercado Melchor Múzquiz
  • Mercado de Jamaica

Tuesday – 22/03 Transfer from Mexico City  2250m to Iztaccíhuatl base camp “la Joya’ 3850m ­ – overnight in the tent

Stop in the Paso de Cortez 

Wednesday – 23/03 Hike with all our stuff to Iztaccíhuatl High Camp 4785 m  and spend night there

Thursday – 24/03 An early morning summit departure – alpine style – Iztaccíhuatl Summit Day – 5,215m 

After – Transfer to the colonial town Puebla – overnight in Puebla City hotel Gilfert (historic district)

Friday – 25/03 Transfer from Puebla City to San Miguel Zoapan – lodge – rest in the afternoon, early sleep, getting up at 11pm for the Pico de Orizaba summit push

San Miguel Zoapan in the region of Puebla – located 190 km East of Mexico City

Saturday – 26/03 coming back from the summit of Pico de Orizaba and dying 

Sunday  – 27/03 – Rest @San Miguel Zoapan. (Celebration Hopefully) 

Monday – 28/03 

Transfer to Teotihuacán – one of the largest and most important archaeological sites in Mexico, “city of the gods” – the Citadel, the Pyramid of the Sun, the Pyramid of the Moon, and the Avenue of the Dead

After transfer to my hotel in Mexico City 

Tuesday – 29/03 Mexico City Walk around the Centro Historico (a Wild Heritage Site, the Zocalo, The National Palace (Palacio Nacional), The Great Temple (Templo Mayor), The Metropolitan Cathedral, visit La Roma – the bohemian district

More Markets: 

  • The Mercado de la Ciudadela (Balderas metro station) –  a wide variety of crafts from all over the country.
  • The Mercado de la Merced, or the adjoining Sonora market for creepy santeria and witchcraft paraphernalia

Evening – 7pm – Arena Mexico – Lucha libre, also known as Mexican wrestling – Amazing!

Wednesday – 30/03 Mexico City Exploration

A day pass – Turibus or Capital Bus tour around the city

Chapultepec Park (or Bosque Chapultepec)

Chapultepec Castle, the National History Museum, the National Anthropology Museum, and the Zoo with giant pandas  🙂

Evening – if still alive – check out ‘Torre Latino’ the skyscraper with the best panoramic view of the city – I haven’t had a chance to see it 🙁 

Thursday  – 31/03 

10.30am Frida Kahlo Museum – La Casa Azul (the Blue House) A MUST!!!

After – Lunch – Tostadas Coyoacan – market

If enough time – visit to Museo Anahuacalli – Haven’t had enough time 🙁 

Back to Mexico City – pick up bags and Transfer to México City airport 

Mexico City – Madrid @19.20 – 13.55

Madrid – London 14.44 – 16.20
